Dinner at Mee Udang Mak Jah, Kuala Sepetang

Kuala Sepetang, is a village in Taiping which is well known for its prawn mee. Kuala Sepetang formerly known as Port Weld.
As dad wanted to meet his business friend in Taiping, so we decided to try out mee udang in Kuala Sepetang on 2.1.2012. There are many stalls that sell "mee banjir udang" along the road from Simpang all the way to Kuala Sepetang. Our journey was guided by very dim-lit road lights. We stopped at a place which was called Mee Udang Mak Jah.
It is easy to find Mak Jah Mee Udang as there are few signboards along the restaurant.
Their business hour is from Monday to Sunday, from 11.00 am to 10.00 pm. Close on Wednesday.
A traditional-Malay kampung style restaurant.
May be you heard about Mee Banjir Udang through a program on TV3 years ago. We chose mee udang Mak Jah because it was shown on TV.
There was an article written on Utusan Malaysia which introduced the Prawn Mee restaurant in Kuala Sepetang. Mee Udang Mak Jah sells superb mee udang noodles that you cannot miss if you come to Taiping.
This popular eatery was not so crowded as usual when we reached. Their service was fast and efficient.
A menu of choices.
Do you see that? Famous Flooded Prawn Noodle. In Malay, it is called `mee banjir udang'. 8-9 prawns in a bowl. It only costs RM7.00. The gravy is thick and flavorful with generous serving of prawns. Great food. Really worth the price.
As for the Mee Udang Special, the noodles are priced at RM 11 per bowl. It consists of about 7-8 large prawns. The difference between normal (RM7) and special (RM11) is size of the prawns. The gravy is soupy but sweet, spicy and delicious. The bowl of noodles has generous portion of large-sized chunky prawns.
The are two types of mee udang. One is with soup and the other one is fried with chillies and soya sauce. This black type soya sauce noodles also costs RM7.00. It looks delicious, isn’t it?
Nasi Goreng Udang Biasa. It costs RM7.00. The portion of rice is satisfactory.
Nasi Goreng Udang Special. It costs RM11.00.
Cold Fresh Orange. It costs RM2.00.
Cold Nescafe. It only costs RM1.60.
Prawn shells on a plate after eating.
Mee Udang Mak Jah has branched out to Kuala Lumpur in Wangsa Maju. You can have a try if you are in Wangsa Maju.
A restaurant's cleanliness and sanitation prove to be important. Dad and mom really hope that their cleanliness improve with their food quality.
Our next aim is to try out another Mee Banjir Udang in Kuala Sepetang-Warong Mak Teh.
Warong Mak Teh, a few kilometres from Kuala Sepetang town. The stall serves mee udang in two sizes -normal or large. You can choose yellow noodles, bi hun or koay teow.
If you are travelling to Taiping, it is worth trying out this delicious noodles flooded with prawns in Kuala Sepetang.
Do you agree that ‘ada udang di sebalik mee’? It could be literally translated: there are prawns behind the noodles. We had a great experience here and enjoyed the flavours of the yummy prawn noodles and rice.
